COMPLETED - Tibetan Children’s Village School in Selakui: A project for a healthy learning environment and a sustainable future

The Tibetan Children’s Village School (TCV) in Selakui, Dehradun, India, is a place where Tibetan children and young people can learn and flourish in a peaceful environment. The school was founded in 2004 by Ama Jetsun Pema la to provide high-quality education for particularly talented and gifted students of the Tibetan community. Today, 370 students attend the school, which is supported by 57 dedicated teachers.

Despite the school’s continuous growth and success, the administration faces challenges that affect the quality of life and learning environment of its students. Especially during the hot summer months, students and staff suffer from high temperatures and inadequate ventilation. For this reason, we want to implement an important project that not only improves the comfort and well-being of the school community but also contributes to reducing energy consumption and costs.

Project Vision: Replacement of Ceiling Fans

The current ceiling fans in the dormitories and classrooms are over 20 years old and have long exceeded their lifespan. They frequently break down and consume more energy than necessary. To improve the learning environment and increase the efficiency of school operations, the old fans will be replaced by energy-efficient and environmentally friendly models. A total of 250 new ceiling fans will be installed in the school’s various buildings.

Project Goals

  1. Improved ventilation and well-being: Installing new fans will create a comfortable temperature in classrooms and dormitories, promoting the well-being of students and staff.
  2. Better air quality: Proper ventilation is essential for an optimal learning environment. New fans help regulate air quality by controlling temperature and humidity.
  3. Energy efficiency and cost reduction: Replacing the old fans with modern, energy-efficient models will not only lower electricity consumption but also significantly reduce the school’s monthly energy costs.
  4. Sustainability: The new fans (35 watts) are more environmentally friendly and contribute to long-term cost savings. In addition, a regular maintenance plan will be introduced to extend the lifespan of the equipment.

Budget:

The total budget for purchasing and installing 250 ceiling fans amounts to €7,140.
